The Woodlucker is a studio founded by the collaboration of two quite famous artists Ann WOOD and Dean LUCKER, Since 1987 when woodlucker was formed ,it has been a partnership based on Ann and deans individual and collaborative efforts and practices. While Dean’s work involves mechanical artwork to foretell mythological storytelling, Ann is more into mixed media portraits and theatrical tableau’s of mysterious beauty and solace. The fusion of these combines a love for illustrative paper art and forgotten histories into engaging objects full of sentiment and longing.
Having quite a number of individual fellowship’s under their belt, amongst which includes Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowships, a Jerome Fellowship, Arts Midwest Fellowship & the Bush Foundation. Woodlucker has also won many awards for their unique artwork.
Presenting Ann’s current artwork which is inspired by historical botanical prints. Ann utilizes superfine intricate cuts on paper to achieve a realistic yet beautiful flower and butterfly wings. Once these are sculpted, they are hand sewn on to wool and velvet backgrounds and finally framed in vintage frame stock. The work is the perfect example of the delicate craftsmanship
