Japanese artist Chie Hitotsuyama creates beautifully detailed, three-dimensional sculptures of wild animals from the newspaper. Within her works she uses old newspapers that have stopped serving their purpose as means of information. After carefully rolling, cutting and placing each piece meticulously, Hitotsuyama is able to breath artistic life and value through those newspapers and repurpose them into these beautiful creatures.
These animals include walruses, rabbits, sea turtles, iguanas, monkeys, dugongs, and more. Her work is inspired by the unnoticed daily perseverance of animals in nature. Hitotsuyama is currently showing several pieces as part of a residency and exhibition at MOAH:CEDAR in Lancaster, California through January 7, 2017.
